This list is based purely on my opinion. If I left out anybody, its probably because:
1) I don’t think they’re that good.
2) I haven’t heard their songs.
So here goes…
NUMBER FIVE: KIRK HAMMETT – METALLICA
Kirk Hammet has been impressing fans with his awesome speed, aggression and mesmerising guitar solos for the heavy metal band Metallica since 1983. Kirk first picked up a guitar when he was 15 years of age, and was heavily influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
Hammett was initially brought into Metallica after lead guitarist Dave Mustaine was sacked from the band in 1983, at the time, Kirk was getting guitar lessons from Joe Satriani. Hammett is well known for his use of the “Wah-Wah” pedal in his solos, and is quoted as saying “They’ll have to cut off my leg if they want me to stop using the wah-wah pedal.”
The best of Hammett :
NUMBER FOUR: SLASH – GUNS N’ ROSES
Breathtaking speed, awesome innovation, nimble fingers.
The above define Slash.
Time named him runner-up on their list of “The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players” in 2009, Guitar World ranked his solo in November Rain No. 6 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos” in 2008, and Total Guitar placed his riff in “Sweet Child o’ Mine” at No. 1 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Riffs” in 2004.
Some of his greatest works :
My personal favorite :
NUMBER THREE: JIMI HENDRIX
Widely regarded as the best electric guitarist of all time. Was the best until he died under mysterious circumstances in 1970 at the age of 27. Hendrix was a left handed guitarist who mostly played a right handed Fender Stratocaster upside down. Jimi was also known to woo crowds by playing lead breaks behind his back, with his teeth, and while his guitar was on fire!
Best works :
His best ever :
NUMBER TWO: DAVID GILMOUR – PINK FLOYD
Guitarist beyond compare. His solos are still the most popular in the contemporary rock music world. Gilmour + Waters = BEAST.
The best of Gilmour:
The best song of Pink Floyd:
NUMERO UNO: JIMMY PAGE – LED ZEPPELIN
THE best guitarist of all time. His performance in Stairway to Heaven which is undoubtedly the best song of the Rock and Roll era was and is the best by a long shot. Jimmy Page has been described as “unquestionably one of the all-time most influential, important, and versatile guitarists and songwriters in rock history”. OK, I totally ripped that off from somewhere but I feel it is a tribute of some significance to one of the best guitarists ever.
The best of JP :
The best ever :
Some of the best solos of all time :
That concludes my list of the top 5 kickass guitarists of all time. As I said before, this is my opinion. So if you beg to differ, please leave a comment below in the comments section.
